  • Short Biography:

I received my undergraduate education in Chemistry at Universidade de Lisboa and a Master’s degree in Biotechnology from Universidade Técnica de Lisboa. I completed my Doctoral studies in Biochemistry, in 2003, at Universidade Nova de Lisboa.

Since then, my interests have been mainly focused in the development of electrochemical biosensing devices, with particular emphasis in point of care tests for early detection of cardiovascular disease markers, t and nitrite quantification in physiological and water samples.

Outside the biosensing and electrochemistry areas, I’ve been involved in the biochemical and structural characterization of several metalloenzymes isolated from bacterial sources.

My current areas of interest include several proteomics projects aiming at characterizing the response of microbial organisms (e.g. sulfate reducers; denitrifiers, yeast, actinomycetes) to stress conditions and identifying protein biomarkers for human diseases and drug toxicity.

I have over 20 years of experience in higher education at several academic institutions, including Universidade do Algarve, Universidade Nova de Lisboa and Egas Moniz - Cooperativa de Ensino Superior .
